New Member, need advice
Hey guys, so im pretty new here and i need some tips and advice.
Basically im in the market for a A4.. Specifically i want a 96 - 99 A4 Quattro 5 Speed Manual 1.8T
Is there anything i should worry about with these cars, or things to look for when im buying them? Theres a ton of them for cheap around here but most have around 120K or so on them.. is Milage a big issue with this cars or will they last forever? How strong are the cars AWD Systems? I know with evos / stis you can do 5 grand drops all day long and there AWD systems take it like a champ.. are ours fragile? Particularly the 5 speed manual AWD system? Are they reliable in general? anything else you want to tell me about them before i go out throwing money around for one? Hows the 1.8T compared to the V6? Just misc things you can think of to inform me about while looking at them.

High mileage is not a major issue with these cars, they can go well over 200k but they do have their quirks. Control arm bushings tend to go bad after 100k, tie rod ends, and timing belt failure is a major one. Usually they should be changed every 60k-80k. The driveatrain is solid on these cars but as you may already know just dropping the clutch on an AWD system will lead to a new clutch in no time. The stock clutch would need to be changed anyway if your adding more power. If you want more info on the 1.8vs2.8 comparison I suggest using the search feature, there is a **** load of info on this topic. Before you finalize the purchase try to get all the service records. You want all the common stuff like whats mentioned above to be already taken care of before you buy it, or be prepared to spend some money later down the line. Audis are great cars and fun to drive but maintenance can get pricey.

Sounds good.. but im pretty much set on the 1.8T.. just because of the fact that ive been N/A my entire life ( i drive a chevy impala right now thats for sale ) and wanna see what boosted is all about.. even if the V6 had more power and is more reliable.. i think ide still pick the 1.8T just for the fact that its a turbo motor.. and hard AWD launches are the sex [:-]
