RE: new control arms installed but still a little clunking??
That was going to be my next thought because I am still waiting to replace my cv joint. The noise only happens when im driving slow and straight, NOT when I am turning so I have no clue.

I have the same problem also. A clunking at low speeds/bumps, then disappears at higher speeds. On my car, I know the tie rods were replaced, so it isn't that. I've had Audi/VW cars that had CV joint/wheel bearings problems, so I've seen it before, but nevertheless, I can't figure it out myself. My car is lowered so I figured that was the problem. Let us know if you figure it out.

Jack up the front of your car, put on 2 jackstands.
grab the wheel on the left and right. try to move it back and forth.
If you have any play at all, its your tie rods.
Do it on both sides.
After all the discussion / symptoms its probably the tie-rod ends, an easy DIY. get the upraded heavier duty ones.

same problem
hey i 've the same problem with my 1998 a4, it clunks when i go over the bumps at lower speeds, and i couldn't find out why...
i think it is a common problem or isn't it a problem at all... it looks like disregardable because only comes at low speeds... but i'm not sure...
