New to buying cars
Alrite, so my friend's dad works a lot with cars and spends a lot of time on them. He goes to car auctions and such buying and selling them.
What they were able to find for me was a 1998 Audi A4 1.8T, 4 speed. Supposedly some special Motorsports edition. I forgot exactly what the logo on the back said. But yeah, Silver paint. Black leather interior. Angel eye head lights. Very nice.
99k miles on it. They're selling it for $5900. Or $6900 for one year warranty. Test drove it and everything but still unsure.
My family is new to all this used car business.
We took care of details such as how we'll cover maintenence because his dad works on cars for a living.
But I'm just wondering what question's I should ask about buying it.
I've been doing research online too and found all these problems such as the timing belt and steering control arms. I'm guessing I should look up a carfax but I just wanted to seek some advice of people who own them. Thanks in advance.

RE: New to buying cars
Well, my mother is one of the people who gather dealer and company information for Carfax... and she has a few good auto auction friends.I asked her about an auction warrenty, and she reccomends you go for it. after all it is only a 1k difference and im sure you will need it. Good luck

RE: New to buying cars
Any more advice anyone can give me?
My dad is really unsure about the whole used car thing.
If I get it I really wanna be able to maintain it the best I can and do anything I can from the start.
And one more question. Would it be okay to use 98-octane gas in it? My one friend drives a 3-series BMW and he says that's nothing to worry about but I've read things about it lowering the life of your car.
