Hello, I just became the owner of a 98 1.8T FWD a couple of days ago and Im very happy I found this site. I was lucky to find a car in such a great shape, but the only problem is that the the turbo is bad. U can even hear a slight clancking sound when accelerating under the hood. The owner was kind enough to reduce the price of the turbo from the price of the car. The car has a APR chip and I think thats what made the turbo fail so soon (105,000 miles). The car still drives smooth but it greatly lacks power. I have been searching this forum and found that one of the best budget upgrades for this car is the KO4 kit, which would be great since the price difference between a new KO3 and KO4 is minimal. My question is: If I already have the APR chip, can I buy just the turbo and instalation hardware kit or do I have to tune the chip for the new turbo?

Hi Honda882000, welcome to the forum. You can buy the k04 and have installed while still using your current apr chip. You will still work, but you will not be utilizing the full benifit of the k04 turbo. It will behave as if you have a k03 inside. You'll def want to upgrade the appropriate software to make use of the k04.

what kind of HP gain will you get from that turbo upgrade? Can you run the stock fuel injectors if you get the ECU reprogramed?
