Default new a4 enthusiast

i am looking into purchasing a used a4. 2000 quattro a4, 53K miles. two years ago something punched a hole in the oil pan and owner didnt know it. engine seized. so the chassis has about 53K miles on it and it has a new block/motor in it with 2K miles on it. anyone see any hesitancy in moving forward because of this???

$13.5K. its the 2.8L v6. owner said it has a "new block" also referred to it as a "motor"...

sounds pretty high imo. having a new motor doesn't necessarily add to the value of the vehicle. the fact that the motor siezed and needed replacing does however lower the value (since you don't know what all was replaced). and it doesn't sound like the owner knows a whole lot about what was actually done. i don't have a list for you but i'm sure there are a few things that should've been replaced with the "motor", which in itself is a pretty broad term that could mean a number of different combinations of parts. blue book value on that car in "excellent" condition is 16k, but like i said, you could have some major repairs on your hands if you get this thing. i thought i got a good deal on my 96 a4 w/130k miles for 6 grand, but then i ended up putting about 5k in repairs (new tranny, cv joints, etc etc etc). you don't want to deal with anything like that, trust me...

i would also recommend going for the 1.8t if you are going to mod it... i would then suggest a 2001 1.8t because that engine has 170 hp unlike previous years of the b5 chassis which have 150hp

I can testify to the lack of mods! 2002 3.0 A4 and I barely have any options for modding. Other than Intake/Exhaust/Suspension, I'm staying stock. I got a great deal on it, which is why I went with it. Fresh out of college I figured it was a solid investment.

*Waiting for the 2.0T A3;

Don't do like me, go with the T.

if you don't want to mod though, go with the v6 because it's more powerful stock and more reliable.
