Need Help With A4 1.8T Occasional Problem
Hi,
I am new here and joined to see if any of you guys can help me with an irregular but annoying problem.
First the car:-
1997 A4 1.8T FWD
BSR chip to 197hp
Performance filter and exhaust
Now the problem.
Over the last 2 months, this has only happened twice. On both occasions I had been at highway speed (100 - 120kph) for a prolonged period before a gap opened up and I was able to put my foot down a bit.
This normally isn't a problem and I 'breeze' past the traffic quite happily!
However, on these 2 occasions, the engine or at least the power has seemed to cut-go-cut-go etc resulting in the car bouncing down the road at about 140 or 150kph (90ish mph).
As I said, both times have been after a prolonged period at about 120kph, just on the boost and it has only happened twice despite driving in the same conditions pretty much every day.
There are no warning lights (so engine not actually stalling), just this on-off-on power.
Is this some sort of fueling problem? maybe a sensor? ECU?
Would a fuel cut defender help?
Any info you guys may have would be a great help.
Thanks Richie
