www.raxles.com sells full axles with new inner and outer cv joints for 190 per side iirc...i was quoted 180 per joint by my mechanic...youre probably looking at 250-300 at the dealership...replacing the axles is something that you should be able to do yourself.

I've had mine replaced a few weeks ago... Fortunately, my CVJoints were fine because I caught the problem early. They charged me $10 for the boot, but $100 for labor... Buying and replacing the whole thing yourself seems like a much better deal if you can do it.

yea, both fronts are torn on mine, i got one replaced, 10 buks for the part and like 90 for labor, its an hour job for a skilled trained audi mechanic with the right tools.
for people like me and you its probally a half a day job

Bah, changing CV's isnt a huge job... it can be done with basic tools. Which boot is torn, inner or outer? And yeah, if you think you've caught it early, then just replace the boot... and go from there.
So, knowing that a shop charges 1 hour... I bet you can have it done in 2 hours max... so that's not so bad. It's like paying yourself 45 dollars an hour! That's a bit more than I make. (by about 4x)

if your boot simply torn or is the cv joint dying??? no need to replace it all if you don't have to.
Take the boot off, remove all the grease you can and lube that sucker up with new grease, then add new boot.

RE: my cv boot is TORN!
I replaced my boots 25 dollars a boot kit, 3 hours for all four in the front (and that was because I was missing a set of pliers) but if you have no clue on how to do CVs you would want a manual. And if you destroyed the joint then you are going to need the new axles. Either way, you could do it for a hundred bucks in 3 hours. Replace a whole half of the car at the same time though. Don't do just your inners or outers. Complete front. Complete rear. Which ever one is bad. (Rears are rare I am at 175K and mine are still fine)
