My car isn't starting very well...
I was trying to start my car up tonight and it took three times to get it on. I figured it was the batery. It had the normal syptoms of a dead battery but i took it to Advanced Auto parts and they ran a test on the battery and that wasn't what it was. I have a bad feeling its my alternator. Are they expensive to replace on a 1.8t 2001? And do they make an aftermarket one that will be better for the car?

No none of that stuff happened. I had my codes checked. I had my battery and alternator checked and it was neither of them. My car is running good now but none of my gauges are working now. No speedometer, rpm, even gas. I have no choice but to take it to the dealership. ****...im gonna be broke

I assume you checked fuses right? it sounds dumb, but well, some people don't realize how simple these fuses can be blown while reattaching the battery and toying with the wires in the electrical system. Try swapping out the fuses. If they keep blowing, then well, take it in. otherwise, there is your solution.

well i took it to a performance shop where i got my chip and they said they checked all the fuses and that it wasn't the problem. He thought it was just somethin wrong with the cluster
