If this is a new situation (within a couple of days) I don't think he's going to have a mold problem..... yet. Mold takes time to grow and spore.

depends. my basement flooded a month ago. in 2 days you were smelling mould. what's the harm in taking out the carpet anyway? especially with this much water.

In two days you smelled mold that probably was already there and just needed moisture to kick it into high gear! That's a common issue with basements; most have existing mold at low levels.

But then again, two days after a flood will begin to show some odors in any enclosed area.

yeah. quite honestly, i'd just be taking out the carpet until everything gets dried out. if you wait for mould to start growing... may be too late. mould doesn't always come out (another lesson from the basement)

you anywhere to hang it? i'd be hanging up ur carpet and mat, or elevating it on crates or something with a DE-humidfyer or fans on it. if i had known there was THIS much water, i'd have suggested it first thing. yeah, it's a PITA, but a) any car activities are fun. to me anyway... b) saves you buying a new carpet...
