My 2000 A4 just popped a CEL, Help
Let me start by saying that I have not had a chance to hook up a scan tool, it's 12:10 am, and I don't own one of my own.
When it happened:
I was driving at about 65 MPH on the ther freeway, I had gone about 35 miles, and the oil temp gauge started to creep up from 250 to just under 350, then just droped to 150. I was like WTF. Anyways I drove the other 60 miles home, all freeway, and picked the wife up, went to the stop sign on the end of the block andthe CELturned on. I figured ok, my baby needs formula, I'll take it easy and check it out in the morning. I get off base and back on the on ramp to the freeway and my car beeped at me. The driver info display was amber in color and had MPH in a circle and a number 1 in the upper left corner. Does this tell anyone anything?
Other info that may be needed:
Car- 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro Tip, 163,500 miles.
The car just got a new turbo (OEM replacement) today. The oil was also replaced. The wife took it to Grease Monkey for the I/M and Safty and they gave her a free synthetic oil change. When the replaced the filter they undid the intake tube and then started a few minutes later with it still off. They quickly turned the car off and sucured the intake tube to the manifold. I am not sure if that would affect it.
OBD II scan tool codes to come in the morning. In the meantime, any help provided is greatly apreciacted.

RE: My 2000 A4 just popped a CEL, Help
the only help I can offer you is an explanation of the "mph" in a circle with a 1 in the corner. this is straight from the owner's manual: "the stored speed has been exceeded. slow down or set new speed." it then goes on to say, "you can store a road speed which is not to be exceeded. as soon as you exceed that speed by approximately 6 mph, a warning tone sounds and "MPH" appears in the display. the "MPH" disappears when you reduce the speed below the stored speed. also, the "MPH" goes out when the driving speed increases approximately 25 mph over the set speed for at least 10 seconds. the stored speed is not deleted."
so basically it's a little reminder telling you you're speeding. you probably set it by accident when you were playing with the "test" button (the one next to the clock) after your CEL came on.
hope this helps a bit.

check all the fluids it could be low coolant ( the temp gauge is a warning ) the CEL will come on to warn you something is not right and the coolant will do this but have it scanned for codes regardless and dont drive it till your sure all the fluids are 100%

P1176 = post-cat O2 sensor correction limit reached.
Most likely this means you need to replace your post-cat O2 sensor. Probably should do the pre-cat one if it hasn't been done yet as well.

Post-cat O2 was replaced 1800 miles ago. I cleared the code, have checked all of the fulids, which were all fine, and it has not come back on. I am not sure why it came on, but after almost 5 hours of driving, no CEL. Could it have been from when the car was started without the intake tube connected?
