My 1.8 A4 jumps!!
Hey guys,
I just bought my first 1997 A4 1.8!! I'm so excited!
However, a few things are worring me that I wanted
to ask you guys about...
1. It's got 132,000 miles on it, so what maintainence should I do
on it? (I honestly don't think the previous owners did
anything on it)
2. The car jerks and jumps a little bit when it shifts gears (it's an automatic)
3. The car vibrates when it's slowing down or when I hit
the brakes!
Can someone please help!
Thanks alot!

RE: My 1.8 A4 jumps!!
well ur vibration problem is prolly warped rotors so u should replace them what do u mean when u say ur car is jumping if it seems like your rpms go up then your trans catches and jumps forward then ur trans either needs to be flushed or its starting to go out and if i was u i would just go in and get ur car a tune up and either do it ur self or get everything checked out to make sure its in good condition

Im so sorry dude. If its poorly maintained your going to dish out major cash.
The jump your feeling could either be one of two things if not both. The driveaxles are shot. Or your transmission is slipping.
Your going to have to do a timing belt change if the owner neglected to do so.
Go ahead and give it a oil change, sparkplugs, sparkplug wires and a new air filter.
Take it to a local mechanic to see if your struts/shocks are in good shape and your front control arms are still good.
Brake pads and rotors need to be changed if needed.
Other than the major stuff thats the gist of what you need to do before you run into more problems.
