RE: Mmmmm... wheels...
That is the style of wheel I was looking for! Car looks very very nice! I'm stoked that you bought the wide ovals! How are they? I was too afraid to try them... I am a huge advocate of the firestone firehawk SZ50EP's, which is what I bought for my new wheels... they are discontinued, and hard to find (thanks to the wide oval). The wide oval looks like the SO3 potenza, to me... which is a proven tire. My SZ50's look sweeeter though! Woot!
haha, seriously though, your car looks really bloody nice.

There aren't too many twisty raods in NJ. So I tested them out on a couple on/off ramps and a posted 35 mph turn that I take on my way to work that goes up/down a decent size hill. The on/off ramps I used to take at 35, because nj saves the tightest part of the turn for 20 yards before you merge with traffic. I took it at 45, cake walk. The 35mph hill I could take at 45, is now around 60. I really need to find some twisted roads to test them out on. I'll probably end up in PA looking for some mountains.
Noise- There is none, it's awesome. On the freeway and on normal roads, I didn't hear any monster truck tire sounds. All I could hear was the sweet sound of the engine (when my radio was off).

Ah, good to hear they are living up to the firehawk name, then
Just wait until it rains! Oh God... in the rain, my SZ50's defy the laws of physics. I swear!
Seriously though... they kick ***. I am having rubbing issues with my damned 235/45/17's... So, who knows. Maybe I'll pawn these firehawks off on my dad, to use on his b6 (which uses this tire size from factory) and then buy some 225/45/17 wide ovals.
Errm... what did the tires cost? I know list price on the SZ50EP was 580ish Canadian... I got them for 179 each, installed/balanced... but like I said, discontinued.

Tirerack has them for $125. I paid $135 each at my favorite tire shop. Free mount and balancing w/purchase and I didn't have to pay for shipping. They're getting pretty good reviews from what I've seen.
Fancy graphs comparing the Firehawk, BFG g-force t/a kdw, avon tech m500, and eagle rs-a.

See how much *** they kick, on the wet track lap times!? jeebus!
Here's the racing rain tire... beside my SZ50EP. I maintain that summer tires are rain tires... most crap tires will fare well enough on dry pavement -- it's the rain that separates the **** from the good stuff.

After further on-ramp testing, I can't get the tires to squeak. I just slide out of my seat, with the leatherette and all. I was doing 45 and they just went with the road.
