Misfired at low fuel levels

Misfired at low fuel levels
I have a 2005 1.8T Quattro. I have had it for 6 months (3500 mi) now and have had to take it in for servicing 3 times so far. Apparently, whenever I run it under quarter tank (not neccessarily reserve or lower) it has multiple misfires when I start up the next time.
I always use Shell or Chevron 91 octane so I would expect running it under quarter tank should be okay, but it misbehaves everytime.
Is this normal?
The dealership says they cannot bill me out to Audi because they will not pick it up. What are my rights?
Thanks.

RE: Misfired at low fuel levels
Do you smell fuel around your car? Sounds like you could have a small leak between your pump, and your injectors... i'm pretty clueless about it though.
audi will not pick what up? the car, or the bill? if it has 3500 miles, they'll be fixing it for you.

RE: Misfired at low fuel levels
sounds like your leaking fuel pressure down when the vehicle sits and sets your cel on start-up
there is no way you should foot the bill for any diagnosis on that car, i agree with head, find another dealer to work with

RE: Misfired at low fuel levels
The service guy wasn't very clear about what he did and didn't diagnose.
He said that the error code reported by the car was multiple misfires due to low fuel and that he just reset it. I don't think he investigated whether there was anything actually wrong with the car.
It was just below quarter tank at the time of the misfire though and I would assume that is a reasonable level to run on. I guess my question is, how common (or uncommon) is a misfire at below quarter tank (but outside reserve)? Personally, I think it is unreasonable to expect the fuel tank to be at least quarter full at all times, so I doubt Audi would engineer a car so. Stranger things have been known to happen though so I'm trying to determine this is a peculiarity of the A4, or my car.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks.
PS. When I said Audi won't pick it up, I meant the service charge. I haven't actually spoken to Audi yet.
