isnt 15k a litle pricy? im assuming you live in the continental us. im not trying to rag on any way, but i thought in the mainland, cars were supposed to be a lot cheaper? i live in hawaii, and i just picked up the exact same car as you but with only 6000 miles and a bunch of other goodies for only 17k..

Check the control arms and get it VAGed to see what codes it may be throwing - do a boost check with the VAG, too.

I picked up a 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro for 16K. The car has a mileage of 62500 miles. Is it a good deal? What should be change in the near future? Do you think I should get an extended warranty for $5K with additional 3 years or 37000 miles?

If the timing belt hasn't been changed, change it now; big bucks if you let Audi do it.
Check your control arms for wear.
Replace the DV with a better unit - upgrade it now.
Get the oil changed to synthetic, if it isn't already, and change it often.
Have the clutch and flywheel checked when you have the bucks to spare.
Get a VAG-com; best investment value for your car. Use it regularly to keep a check on the car; do your own diagnostics.

DV = diverter valve (aka BPV: bypass valve) - a valve that diverts excess boost from the turbo and back into the intake when you get off the gas, or sends boost to the turbo under acceleration. Sometimes this valve starts to leak under load and boost escapes - which means you don't get as much boost to the turbo as you should.
The DV is a fairly cheap part to replace. You can upgrade to the TT valve for 30 bucks.
oh - it is spelled "Tiptronic"
cheers
