Mass Airflow Code

Mass Airflow Code
Need some help decoding my mass airflow sensor.
About a month ago I replaced the throttlebody with a new VDO unit as I was reading fault codes from VAG.
Programed it in and ran great for 3k.
Car died on me on the road, towed it home and scanned codes...found:
16486 Mass Airflow (G70) signal too low
P0102-35 10 intermittent
Cleared codes and tried reprograming...ran right for about 1 minunte then died.
How do I know this is really the fuel pump as the car has 123k on the factory pump?
Also I have all new ICM and coilpacks

RE: Mass Airflow Code
I'll try unpluging the MAF...thanks
The reason I'm thinking about the fuel pumpis the engine runs like the pump is working intermittently able to idle for a few seconds then dies.
Alsothat I just replaced the MAF a month ago and find it hard to believe it could be dead already...I bought a factory unit and got over 100k out of the first one.

RE: Mass Airflow Code
Tried and tested with MAP unplugged...no change.
Found crash code in central locks:
01366 open due to crash signal
35-00-
01389 Tailgate open (f124)
29-00 short to ground
I had the rear bumper off the day before to repair an old dent in the bumper cover.
Cleared all codes engine and cent locks, car runs correct for 30 seconds then door locks actuate by themselves and shortly after engine starts to run rough and then dies.
All the same codes appear?

RE: Mass Airflow Code
1999 1.8T ABE
Got the car to run but a little rough and unstable when idles at 800 RPM in park.
Starting to think it could simply be some really bad gas as I filled it the day before. Mobil...

RE: Mass Airflow Code
Take a look around the engine bay at all the hoses to be sure they are on/connected. If the MAF was replaced recently, check the big hose that connects to the air box on the front, and since the throtle body was replaced, do a throtle body alignment if that wasnt done. Just turn your key to the on position without starting and let it sit there for 3 minutes and dont touch the gas pedal. You should hear clicking in the TB. There are conflicting stories about the right way to do a TBA, but im pretty sure that should work. If you have vag com, try this procedure too:
Throttle Body Adaptation:
Turn the key on but do not start the car.
[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Measuring Blocks - 08]
Enter Group 060 (may be Group 098 on some cable-throttle cars)
[Go!]
[Switch to basic settings]
Once you do this you will see the top right display say ADP RUN. The TB
adaptation is being done as soon as you switch to basic settings. You will see the values change and hear the TB cycle for the first few seconds then it will stop. Leave it in basic mode for about 30 seconds, then switch back to normal settings and you're all set.
Be sure not to touch the accelerator and make sure the engine is NOT running when you do this!

RE: Mass Airflow Code
Thanks, I've done the alignment a few times over and the end results are the same.
Car runson it'sown longer but then starts to run roughthen and dies...comes up with that same mass airflow code.
As I said it's a new VDOthrottlebody and I've only have 3k on it.
