Converting to manual is complex and involves a LOT of work. Best bet is to source a used auto trans and install that. At least where I live, no one I know who has an automatic worked on, ever has the job done right the first time. It's expensive as hell and almost always leaks or has some other issue. Get a transmission somewhere else (maybe in the classifieds area of this forum) and install that and be done with it. If nothing else, get your car in top shape, sell it, and buy a manual - converting is not worth the aggravation unless you're a masochist with a lot of spare time and cash.

Just to give you an idea how expensive it would be to change to a manual.
New subframe and tranny mounts ~ $1,000
Used 5 speed ~ $1,000
Shifting assembly + used axles ~ $800
You can do away with the TCM, but you would have to zip tie the tranny wiring harness somewhere.
I think it would be more cost effective to buy another car, un-less you're in love with the one you have.

All it takes is searching.

http://www.millisautoparts.com/ - They have one, not sure about miles but they're asking $1200

Rowley Auto Salvage in Rowley MA - 588 Main St. 978 948 7410
Also has one, asking $1050

http://www.greenleafauto.com/loc-detail.asp?id=21
Also has one, I think they want $1120 - has 151,000 miles.

Try those places out.. call as if you don't know they have one, when they do, throw them a low ball offer, if they don't budge, try bargaining. Anyway, if none of those places work.. do a search for salvage yards in MA.

If you need a forum to USE THE SEARCH to find some good local places try.. http://forums.audiworld.com/newengland/ - make sure you choose New England Discussion as a database filter. Good luck.
