Default Lower engine shield/cover

I just finished my first oil change on my "new to me" 2002 A4 Quatro. My question is this, is there any reason to keep the lower engine shield/cover. I can see where there would be some very minor protection to the oil pan...but I have to think that it you hit it hard enough to cause dameage that the shield would not provide all that much protection...The shield to date has no marks/scrapes/gouges on it so I can't see how bottoming out would be an issue???

Peace

Also to keep up sales of the $6.00 screws (appropriate to call them "screws") that hold it on. If all of your screws don't have the little rubber washers on them, get them. They are cheaper than the screws.

I used to use it but i dont anymore... unless you offroad or live near bad roads you dont need it. For snow i would tho.

They do hold engine heat, but not enough to make a HUGE difference. There a pain anytime your under your car too.

its not a useless thing it helps protect from mud, dirt and crap and it might even help direct air somewhere, who knows
