im looking to buy a 98 or 99 audi A4 1.8 quattro, im new with audi, and have no idea what i could be gettiong myself into, when buying used, how many miles is to much? what problems could i run into. and how much is it approx to maintain it on a yearly basis?
any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Timing belt should be done before 90K mi. Engine should not contain sludge. Check the control arms.

the car im looking into buying is a 97 1.8t quattro, the body has 140 000kms on it but has a new engine with 40 000kms. the car has a few mods such as racing suspension, KN air filter, and TAP chip in it. im wondering if i could run into more problems because the car was modified? since the guy probably drove it a little faster. thanks for the help.
