Default Looking for an A4....

I am a college student looking for an A4, w/ a price range up to about 9 grand. I'm new to Audis, and I am curious what i should look for in one, i noticed the 90k service is big with A4s, also wondering if there was any "bad years" that i should stay away from...etc..any help would be great! Thanks!

There is not really any bad years. The one big thing you have to think about is which engine you want, the 1.8t or the 2.8. If you are any bit into modding you will need to get the 1.8t. The 2.8 is a pretty good engine but there is virtualy no mods for it, the only real power adding mod is the pes supercharger but that will put you out about 4 grand. I had a 2.8 passat and sold it to get my 1.8t audi because i wanted the turbo and i wanted the modability. So i personaly higly recomend the 1.8t. As for the 90k service the HUGE think you have to find out before buying an a4 is whether the timing belt has been replaced. And one more thing is if you are going to do big mods such as turbo upgrades the manual tranmission is really the best because the auto has troubles if you have big powers (Plus the 5 speed is just more fun)

the 96-97 12V v6 is one of the most reliable audi engines...there's pretty much no modding options that are worth anything, and it's not fast...it keeps me out of trouble.

yeah, if you want to stay away from modding, the v6 is nicer... very smooth, has a nicer transmission, quieter... can't really go wrong. Just know that for 500 bucks +- you can make the 4 cyl turbo have more power than the v6.
