ln2 code appearing
ive just bought a 97 2.8q a4, and ever since Ive had it, the code "ln2" has flashed up upon starting. Is this a service warning? Im not worrined if it is, as the service book shows that the last service was done by an independant garage, so they probably wouldnt have been able to get rid of that anyway. If it is a service warning, does anyone know how to get rid of the warning without a vag-com?
Thanks in advance!

RE: ln2 code appearing
Im not in business of trying to waste anyones time, I respect this forum, and have always valued the help you and others have given me. I have searched for a while, but didnt find anyone asking specifically about this code. Transverse asked about a "serv INSP" code, and you did mention something about Ln1 or Ln2, but unfortunately for me, you didnt actually say what either of those codes mean. It does seem as if I cant reset the code myself, but I wanted to know what it was trying to say before i ignore it further. Thanks anyway Jest.

Well if you type in ln2 in the search box you'll get this:
On 1996 and 1997 a4's the code can only be cleared with a vag-com. It is a service warning suggesting you go get a type 2 inspection.

Sorry if I seemed harsh, bad day at work.
Ln2 is programmed to come on after a determined amount of mileage. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the car. It's just the dealers way to scam more money from you. I can't remember off hand what they actually do at the service. Probably change the oil and filters and maybe some spark plugs. There is also a reference to it in your owners manual. The bugger can only be turned off with a vag-com. If you don't want to pay the dealer to turn it off, ask someone in your area to help you:

Lots of people who are willing to help you out with a vag. I have helped several people myself.

The vag-com is a cable you connect from your car's data port to a laptop. It can scan all of the electrical componants in your car for fault codes. It has the ability to reprogram these modules also. For instance I have my instrument cluster programmed to display text in German. I paid US $60.00 for the cable and $99 to register the software from ross-tech.com. Best investment I have made. Saves much time.
