Your stock ECU has a factory fuel map set to run 7 to 8 psi so your computer has pre set values of when and how much fuel to add and only uses extenal sensers to fine tune the air fuel ratio. So if you raise the boost on your factory ECU you will be running out of the range the of the stock fuel map even if the maf is telling the ecu to send more fuel your stock ECU wont because you are operating out of the stock fuel maps range. Thus your car will run lean so even if raising the boost on a stock 1.8t didnt throw you in to limp it would still be bad for your motor.
So when you get a chip you get a new fuel map and timing curve to support more boost.

been using a MBC at 14psi from 9months ago. have a a/f ratio and it says im running fine. Also spark plugs say im running fine, no detonation or misfires. Car idles fine and holds boost fine. i think im fine. enjoy now ppl. C U.
