Leaky Front Propshaft Seal on A4 (anyone know average cost for repair)
Newby question. Spent some time looking on site but could not find answer to question. I have a 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro.
-Dealer told me my front propshaft seal is leaking and needs to be replaced. Gave me an estimate of $380 for parts and labor. Am I getting ripped off? Anyone know of Audi specialist in the Metrowest MA area?
Thank you.

If it is a small leak, maybe it doesn't need to be fixed. I have had a leak for the last 4 years. I change my fluid every 2 years as I drive 40K per year.
I was quoted about the same to fix the seal, but I declined.

Just curious, where is the leak coming from? I've lately had a leak on my 03 A4 B6 quat. Overnight the leak is about the 3" wide puddle on the ground and it's almost clear, watery like fluid, coming from under the engine passenger side near the center. Would this be the same as yours?

I've also been told I have a propshaft seal leak on my 2001 S4. I was quoted $450 for a fix from the local dealer in Tampa. I think it's been leaking for about 6 months now, although the leak is small. I'm still debating on whether or not to get it fixed. I will likely trade the car in at the end of the year, so maybe I'll just get a trannie fluid change and let the tradee deal with it...

Okay I was about to take my 02 A4 3.0 qt in to get the prop shaft seal replaced but reading this thread i'm having some reservations. I was quoted a whopping $877 for parts and labor. I am a first time Audi owner, and while I knew euro was going to run me a bit more in maintenance costs, I have wanted an Audi since I was a little kid and pulled the trigger as soon as I found one I liked that I could afford. The thing burns oil like crazy but i've heard that is pretty normal for the 3.0. She needs some work but she's a great car, just want to know if this is a rip-off, i should get another quote, or if its even worth doing. Any insight would be of great help.
