The k04 flows more volume at say 15psi than the k03 does at 15psi though. If anything youll run a tad lean compared to what the stock/k03 chip fuel mapping is preset for. But it shouldnt be anything to cause detonation or any short/long term affects. Thats how I understand it.
But shouldn't the ECU detect the extra air and add the fuel to compensate? I guess the only way to know for sure is to get an A/F meter on it and see if it's any different than stock.

You're looking at around $400-600 for the software, unless the car is already chipped, then you can upgrade it cheaper than that.

The turbo is only rated for 15-20 more hp over a ko3, i think you will be more than ok running it withko3 tuning and a 5bar. Lemmingwinks and a vagcom (real ross-tech kind) would be cheaper and give you an overall better tune than just getting a ko4 chip and running it as is.

Still baffles me why people on here arewilling to spend $2kfor a practiacally stock turbo setup.

Wow, $400-$600???? Looks like I'll be sticking with a K03, I'm used to paying $55-85 for chips!!!!

I ran the k04 on stock k03 programming for a few weeks, there were absolutely no problems at all. Boosted to 7psi, no codes, nothing. Ran just like stock.

Its just stupid to run a k04 on stock tuning if you have no intention to ever upgrade your tuning. It would be like spending a bunch of money and getting N20 installed and not installing the shot button.

Agreed, it is pretty pointless to spend the extra money if you're not going to take advantage of it. However, if you were able to find a cheap k04 or figured you'd change the chip out in the future, then there's not really a reason why you shouldnt do it.
