ORIGINAL: khj677turbo

Well, I sent them an email saying, i have to send my ecu in for the ko4 file, can i get the j31 file becasue i understand its a more aggressive file for the 2000. Kinda like the pc16 for the 99 etc, well they said we dont support that file anymore. So im thinking that they just have a regular ko4 file (doesnt need injectors) thats accessible to the b5, and thats what im getting since i dont need injectors like the pc-16 file does.
Really?! No more J31??? Thats crazy if true.. Well, if you find out the name of the basic k04 file that they use let me know. Also, do you know your ECU number?? If so, post it. Ive been told that there is no k04 file for my ecu, not even a basic file!

Ok i have to take back my statement, like i said i got an email from GIAC which i will quote.
"
Hello Kyle,

Thank you for your e-mail and interest in our products. The J31 is
no longer supported and was not written for larger injectors. The
current K04 file for the 2000 a4 was made for the stock injectors and
a 5 bar fuel pressure regulator. You also want to make sure you
upgrade your inter-cooler. There is also no need to send your ECU to
GIAC as your local distributor or AWE would perform the flash. Thank
you again for your inquiry.

Best Regards,

Customer Service
www.giacusa.com "

Ok so I finally go tthat response, no response from AWE, but i looked thru my bulk mail, which is always nothing i look at and the guy from AWE sent me this.
"Kyle-

Please send the ECU to us if you purchased the K04 kit from us. Same
price for J31.

Thanks!

-Mike "

Im sort of confused now. but i hope that helps, and ill give you my ecu number monday or sunday night when i start installing the ko4.

Yup thats the sort of feedback i was getting from AWE and GIAC. NOT CLEAR and completely contradicting.I would assume that both AWE and GIAC would have asked you for your ecu # before giving you an answer on anything at all.

Yeah, well they didnt so i guess i hope it works, and i dunno if i should opt for the j31 file if GIAC doesnt even recognize it anymore... but if i can get more power then ill do it but im still wondering how they can not know what they are selling.

Honestly for FWD, J31 might be too much. Youre going to have problems putting all that power to the ground, mainly if you are launching. The J31 gives so much torque so low down in the rpms, with fwd youll be going through tires pretty fast. If I were you id go with the basic file and see how it goes and eventually upgrade if you want and if you think it will be alright with fwd. That was my plan at one time.

Lol at one time, kinda funny sounds like a story haha. Well i dunno, i dont launch much to be honest, partly becasue i dont race or speed out of intersections. But yeah, im going to college soon, and id like to get everything settled so i have no worries for some time. Just a question though, the paper that i send in with my ecu says i can get stock programming for 50 extra bucks. How does GIAC allow you to switch back in forth? APR does the cruise control, and thats the limit of my knowledge.

last i knew GIAC required a special little "controller" type thing that you plugged into your diag port, just deside what program you want and push the approprate button. $199- for the controller thingy if i rememeber correctly, but that might have all changed.
