Default just wanna make sure, upgrading soon.

ok, so i have a 1998 a4 1.8t FWD.
i have a change in plans because i don't want to throw toooo much money into my audi, i just want to be satisfied with about 200whp or very CLOSE.

plans are:
k04.
giac chip.
testpipe.
exhaust.
forge 007.
w/m injectors.
fmic.

would i be able to reach 200whp with a k04?

i search the forums and i saw some dyno charts of the k03 vs the k04.

if i could reach 200whp with the k04 should i rebuild my k03 to the k04 or just buy a k04?

well any help i would greatly appreciate it.

another thing, sometimes i can feel my k03 turbo sometimes it seems like its not even working, it sometimes seems like its spuddering. any suggestions on whats going on??

Why are you getting a new downpipe? The stock is fine for the k03 or k04. Also, before you decide in concrete between GIAC / APR chip or Forge 007 / APR R1 DV, and what sort of intake you want, you should look around a bit, and find out what best suits you. If you've already done the research, then forget what I said, but otherwise, it's a good idea to keep your options open

And yes, you could be buck-*** stock, and just replace the ECU, and be pushing 200HP. With a new air filter, intake, and exhaust, you could up that by a little bit, too.

As for the turbo not "working", make sure your stock DV isn't busted to shambles, because that'll relieve the turbo of the boost pressure you have, so it... wouldn't work anymore... that's just what I think though, I'm no mechanic. Ask cincyTT about it.

EDIT: where you wrote "getting a new downpipe / testpipe" what do you mean? Testpipes replace the cat so your airflow isn't limited; downpipes are different. You definitely don't need a new exhaust with a testpipe if you're going to be using the stock turbo; you'll run the risk (if the diameter is too large) of losing some of the turbo's backpressure.

i searched it and he said that the stock ***TESTPIPE*** is the most restricted thing on the car and it would add like 20hp if you put a new one. im likeing the giac chip because its faster at low rpms and i would love the pull rather than speed at higher rpms. forge 007 vs APR R1 DV i'm still deciding on this but for now im satisfied with a forge 007, when i researched this the guy said that the stock dvs are shiz because there plastic and crap and more boost can't handle it and stuff. ive seen arguments on which one is better, there was a recent topic on that one. i'm wanting to hit around 200whp. not to the crank, i'll probally need more money than i think? 200hp im sure i could reach with just a new chip. any help would be great thanks for respond

i guess what i want is a testpipe then, having that and getting caught is a 3,000 fine though i believe, my friend has test pipes on his g35 and is always freaked out. whats the stock exhaust? i don't even like the tip, maybe i'll just get the muffler replaced and keep the stock exhaust if i don't have to change it. i don't know how big my exhaust should be because i woulnd't want too much back pressure. so if a testpipe would be good i'll just get a new tip muffler.

woh woah. the guy said he was wanting 200 WHP, not crank HP. meaning he would defanitly need a k04 to be clos.and in that case he would need goac because apr doesnt offer it for the b5. and go with forge. i hear the spr DV isnt that great

a k04 is capable of 200whp. and yes the cat is very restictive. 2.5" exhaust is ideal for a k04 (techtonics is a 2.5" borla exhaust BTW). and an intake ain't gona do jack squat. put that money to better use elsewhere

and taking the cat out is a $10,000 fine. but there is no way for anyone to know your running it unless you have emissions.

Isn't that gonna be 200 flywheel though, not the 200whp he wants...or am I mistaken on that?

chip would give about 210 ish flywheel. with exaust, TP, you are looking at 220-225 crank hp. to get close to 200 WHEEL horsepower, he would need k04 with pc-16 file

no a regular k04 file can make 200whp. a k03 at 20psi, a custom tune, and 104 octane gas can do 200whp actually. and a k03s can put down 258whp. dont believe me? http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2878688
