I wouldn't worry about the level ten uprade unless you are going to go with a bigger turbo setup. If you are just looking for some performance and don't want to spend to much, I would go with a chip and a 710N dv.

So what would be a good chip for just running around nomally (without putting too many other things into the car)? (I would guess GIAC but I'm a noob so someone should set me straight)

Even I need to know it.....
I realise that there is too much info going over in this thread... but its kindda over my head....
Can someone please explain what this chip does? And where is it exactly installed? and its approx. cost?
Does it harm the engine in any way? Any side-effects noted?
So that I can write a short note on 'importance of chip in Audi' ..

as far as chips go, your best bet is to find a dealer that is relatively close to you and use that programming. This way if you ever need an updated program or have issues you can go directly to them and get it resolved vs sending your ECU in and having it reflash etc.

Where are you located?

Check out goapr.com or giacusa.com and find a dealer near you. You will find all the info you need from their websites.

make sure maintenence is out of the way before upgrades. They will bite you in the *** hard core. Your Timing Belt should have been replaced twice already. Fuel filters, cv boots, control arms...blah blah blah. Another cheap easy upgrade is switching to NGK Bkr6e copper spark plugs gapped to .32" or .28" if you are chipped. After a chip, I would just work on a nice drop and some subtle rims and you'll be set. If you have the 99 and not 99.5 get the newer projector headlights.

I'm located in White River Junction, VT. I realize this thread is becoming rather varied... but I've got a quick question if anyone knows the answer. When I (the auto transmition... damn auto) shift into third it feels like it shifts twice... like the clutch doesn't quite catch the first time. This doesn't happen EVERYTIME but enough for me to notice. Any ideas what this might be? And I've had the timing belt changed and the cv's done (actually just had the assembly replaced).

I have an Auto and dont experience that unless going up hills and it trys to downshift when not on the gas. Take not of this and see if it happens to you, if it does its the way it works.
