Instrument cluster failure

Instrument cluster failure
Hello all. My Instrument cluster on my 1998 Audi A4 Quattro 5spd. has started to mess up. By mess up I mean half of the cluster will not light up. At night I can only see half of the RPM gauge and half of the speedometer gauge and one needle is not illuminated. I figured some light bulbs went out. This is not the case because I pulled the cluster out and the only bulbs there are the ones for the warning indicators such as the check engine light. Apparently the electrical board is messed up.
I think I’m going to need a new gauge cluster. If this is the case I would like to know if an instrument cluster from another year A4 or a differenttransmission (automatic)will work.
I also read somewhere that the cluster has an engine kill on it. Could someone confirm all this?
I am really frustrated with this situation. The dealer quoted me $900 FOR THE CLUSTER ALONE! That is absolutely ridiculous. I need help!

RE: Instrument cluster failure
I know eBay has a lot of them, however I have not been able to find one that is from an Audi A4 of the exact same year and options. Will all B5 audi cluster's with info display work with my vehicle (my A4 does have info display)?
