Default Ignition Switch . . . ? HELP

Yesterday:
I try to start my car and it has 0 power . . no radio, no lights . . the keyless entry doesnt work. Dead

The power starts flickering on and off . . .

Still Won't start.

Jumped it and it starts.

Today:
Same thing . . im jumping it right now and it still won't start, barely turns over

I am guessing it is an ignition switch and the stealership says they think the same. . . they want $300 of course
Has anyone installed an ignition switch, is it difficult? Im a starving student so i would really like to save some money right now

Thanks

(the battery is new i just got it in june 07)

Barely turning over doesn't sound like an ignition switch.

Either you have a short to ground in your electrical system that is draining your new battery, or bad alternator. .

If you are starving, don't take your car to the dealership. Find an independent mechanic who specializes in VW/Audi

I agree, doesn't sound like the ingition switch. Just for reference though, you can obtain the part for $35 and install it in an hour. Piece of cake.

He doesnt have a new battery, he has a dead battery.
Replace the battery and you should be golden.

If you want to test the old one, put a multimeter on it, and then see what it reads and try cranking it and see what it reads.I bet its shot. How old is it?

You said its flickering? Did you check the cables to the batteryto make sure they were tight? If those are tight, and the battery reads good with your tester, it could possibly be the switch. usually they go out all they way though.
The best to do would be to test the battery, and if thats not it, have the ignition switch replaced. on mine (a 97) I received a recall notice on the ignition switch. Mine is working just fine, so I am leary about having it done.I heard of one or two that had it done, and then had ignition problems. So, if mine goes, ll take it in thenand show the notice.
