Anybody out there that can help me with my problem? I have a '98 A4 2.4 MT and at the moment the car starts up but immediately stalls the engine. Someone suggested that I switch her to ignition 1, wait a while and then start up. Apparently this resets the computer to read the key properly - This didn't work! The were a few other options which I've tried but nothing works. What could be the problem and how do I remedy it? Thanx.

Does the car restart after that? Almost sounds like lack of fuel pressure. Could be a partially clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump is getting weak. Turning the key to position one (on my car anyhow) starts the priming of the fuel pump.

Does it cut straight out after starting? If so sounds like the immobilizer is activating. Try the spare key if you have one. If the spare starts the car then the other key is either faulty or needs recoding. If no keys start the car then there are a couple of options, but you need to get the fault memories read to see whats logged.
