Default Idle Problem. . . Any ideas?

WhenI start my car in the mornings or whenever it has been sitting for a while (20+ minutes) it has this horrible idol problem. It idols at around 1100 instead of 900like it should for about 2 or 3 minutes, and i hear a loud high-pitched noise from under the hood (usually it does, sometimes it even goes up and down from 1500 to 500). After a few minutes I hear this sound like its winding down and then it idols perfect.

I really do not have any ideas, so any input is appreciated.

Thanks

First hunch is either a vacuum leak or a bad secondary air injection pump.

Have you checked for codes?

Yeah, a vacumn leak was my only guess too.

How do you check for a vacumn leak? YeahI actuallydid run it for codes becausemy check engine light comes on periodically, anywaysI got 4 different codes. . .

2 clyinder misfire codes
- general misfire
-cylinder 1 misfire (i did regap my spark plugs, seemed to help)
fuel system running to lean
can't remember the other one

(i'm at work ehh. . . )

Are we talking American Idol or engine idle?

WHen you get out of werk check the rubber hoses and see if they are split cracked. Then go sing for simon Cowell.

haha thanks, I have checked almost all the hoses, atleast all the ones that I can access by simply popping the hood, however i have not gotten under the car or gotten too deep into the engine bay. . .

is there a typical place for the B5 1.8TQ to have vacumn leaks?

The most common one (I think) runs underneath the intake manifold from the front of the motor to the back.

Isn't this normal warm up period? Mine does the same thing. I thought it was normal.

Thanks dude.
But yeah, as for your possible boost leak... the hose I mentioned is usually pretty obvious when it's leaking. Rig up a temp boost/vac gauge and run the car. Shops can usually do a 'smoke' test for about half an hour's labour.
Your high-pitched whine could possibly be your secondary air pump. To fix that properly, it's expensive. I'm deleting mine. Wait what year is your car? I think SAP's were only on 2000+.
