The Ideal Setup
SO, ive been thinking, and it looks like im going to be getting rid of my audi.
Ok lol but ill be getting another one. Im looking to the future here, and I want to go BT, so im going to invest in a b5 but with quattro this time. I know that the 97-99 is the best, but can someone tell me why?? Id rather have a 2001 if i could just because its newer. I also remember reading somewhere that after the 2000 they stopped forging therods or somethign to that nature, obviously if that was the case it would be good to know info.
I hope this post can help educate other people in the future.

RE: The Ideal Setup
He's probably thinking for the AEB engine.
IIRC, the AEB engine has 20mm wrist pins and 2000+ switched to 19mm, the AEB has larger ports in the head, dbc vs. dbw, and... I can't remember what else. It really wont make much of a difference depending on how big you plan on going.
If it was me, I'd get a 99.5 1.8tqm. New looks, old tech.

the large ports on the AEB head do give you more flow up top, but you do loose low end torque as oppossed to the small port heads..
andDBC is an outdated, un supported platform. DBW is the present and future

RE: The Ideal Setup
ha, i had to teach Cincy that one.
01+ cars have a wideband, yes..
The wideband cars stay in closed loop during WOT so there is a target AF and they match it as long as the fuel is there, so the later ECMs are much easier to tune when doing a BT
