OK heres the deal. I've gotten a few reasonable offers for my car and I'm thinking of getting a b5 1.8T. The thing is I still can't get over the interior. I'll try to explain...When I first sat in my car I knew it was right for me. It just felt warm and comfortable, nothing about it had to grow on me, well except its thirst. I've been checking out a few 99.5+ 1.8s and I just don't feel it. It's the seats, they feel...cheap. They're not bulstered adequately, not that 2.8s are recaros, but I can't get over the pleather and the retarted manual levers. I don't care what you say they're retarded. I'm not a fan of the radio controls either...Now I gotta weigh the pros and cons and make a decision. Do I keep the reliable, pristine condition, gas ***** tiptonic 2.8. Or go with a gas friendly manual 1.8T so I can throw on a BT down the road and mod it out. To be honest the main reason I'm hesitant is I already have a reliable DD, in above average condition, and I've put time and effort into it. If I do get a 1.8T then I'll have to start making payments, worry about **** breaking, and start modding all over again. The other option is to just hold out till next winter when I can get something better like a b7 2.0T.

If you've made it this far thanks, now what do you think?

 

Before any of you start. I was by no means bashing the 1.8T, the b5 interior still looks better than most 07 cars out there. I have no faults with the b6 interior...

BTW heres the car I'm looking at, it as 73k and they want 8000. Keep in mind my car has 134k and in just as good condition.

 

I vote wait and get the B7, B5's are nice cars but they do have more problems then the newer a4's.

 

I love the 2.8 Interior. My bestfriend who owns a TT350z says to me DUDE I LOVE THE INTERIOR I CANT GET OVER IT. He loves the lights that shine over the shifter.

 

I would either A) Hold out for the B7 next year, or B) Get the B5 1.8T and then find a 2.8 at a scrap yard and swap seats.

 

I would definitely wait...if the main reason that you're considering a 4 cylinder now instead of a newer one later is to save money on gas, I think you'll be disappointed.

 

Yea I was thinking about that too. Maybe even a set of S4 seats. They're supposed to fit right in with only modification to the wire harness right?

 

How are the radio controls different from the B5 1.8 to the 2.8? My '01 1.8 had the exact same controls/climate etc. as my friend with an '01 2.8 If I were you, I would just keep your car and wait till you can buy an '07/'08. I dunno if your car is paid off or what, but making payments on a different engine car of the same generation B5 sounds kinda stupid to me. I have a decent sized payment right now, but I love my car. It was nice having my '01 payed off though.....

 

They're not different. I guess I'm just use to the pre 99.5 radio. Never had payments on my car. Yea I've also considered the logic in making payments on pretty much the same car with a different engine, when the one I have is perfectly fine. If I am gonna make payments might as well get a b6 or b7 uh?
