Default Humming sound while driving or in parking

Hi All,

I recently bought a used Audi 2005.5 A4 2T Quattro AWD 99700 miles. It's giving me trouble now.It started with humming sound and may be hesitation in speed when RPM meter is around 2. It was usually around speed 25-30mph. Once I hear that I would push the gas peddle and the sound would go away. Now problem has increased and I can hear at more speeds. Still it goes away once a push the gas peddle. I did some testing on my own when the car was in parking. It does give slight humming sound when I slowly press the gas peddle and it goes from RPM level 1 to 2. Also when I press the gas hard and let the RPM fall from level 4/5 to 0, still I hear similar slight sound when RPM lever is around 2. About a month ago I had fuel filter,Oil filter, air filter and oil changed. I mentioned the problem to the mechanic, he said it's ok. He drove the car and couldn't notice any problem. Although I had seen it happen sometimes at that time as well, but certainly with less frequency. Now I hear the sound more often. The car has about 99,700 miles on it. Probably it needs timing belt changed before 110,000 miles. Did anyone had similar problems? Thanks in advance for help.

This is rather vague and tough to follow.

Your car has a turbo and there is a delay (lag) between when you apply throttle and the turbo to spool up (And for it to spool down). Can the sound also be described as a whistle / woosh?

Default Cam follower is the culprit

Thanks Nebuchadnezzar for following up.
I went to the pepboys nearby. They found the code p2293(fuel pressure valve/cam follower), that is only dealer readable. I called Audi Dealer and they said there was a recall and it was fixed in July 2012. And now it's bad again.

Now I wonder if they will fix it again easily. I read that Audi extended warranty on cam followers till 120K miles.

Did anyone had similar problem? Can someone confirm the extended warranty?

I just had my cam follower fixed at 117K miles. HOWEVER, there may be a limit on the age. I don't have the notification with me, but as I recall it may have said 7 years or 120K miles.
Check the web.
