hum from rear driver side under seat
I have a high pitched hum (maybe a whine) that seems to be coming fromthe floorboard beneath the seat on the rear driver side. It can be an intermittent hum/whine. Sometimes, if I am in motion without pressing the accelerator, it makes no sound, but when I press the accelerator it returns, but it does not adjust pitch with the speed of the car. You don't hear it so much from the outside of the car while it is running, but more so inside. It has just gotten cool in my area, if that has any bearing.

RE: hum from rear driver side under seat
The dealer indicated that the whine is a routine issue with certain years of A4's, sometimes related to cold weather. They offered to check it out, but advised there was little they could do but replace the fuel filter and/or pump, but wouldn't guarantee that it would stop the whine. They were hesitant to offer that, since I have no issue with acceleration, the cost involved, etc. So I left with no check out. It is annoying, though.

RE: hum from rear driver side under seat
Thanks, Dave. I am sure you are correct, as I just inspected it better and it is coming from the filter. I do not have the cover over my filter as in the attached diagram. Perhaps, that is the start of my problem! I will examine it this weekend when I can devote some time to the matter. I have no issues with acceleration or getting gas to the engine, so it just may need some noise dampening material around it.
