How do you check if timing belt need replacement?
Hello, I just brought my car, and I have no information on anything prior to I brought it, so I don't know whether the timing belt needs to replace or not, so how do you check if the timing belt is already replaced or it needs to replace soon?

this is a very difficult question because if your not in the auto trade then you wont know what the signs are, if in doubt and no information as to when it was done "change it regardless" its not worth taking a chance

What about the dealer? The dealer would know if it needs replace or not, right?
BTW, how much is the service maintanence for 100k miles at the dealer?

a dealer wouldn't check it for you because if it went say in 3k miles they would be held responsible as for 100k service I have no idea I work for my self and would only do what the person wanted "not an option with the dealer"

Either wait til it breaks or do it at the 60k/120k interval. Usually if a belt shows wear it will or already has skipped a tooth or shredded a tooth. Just get it done.

I'm certainly not the expert on the forum but if I were you, at 100k I'd change the plugs, oil, filters (all) and if you have no idea about the timing belt maintenence at 60K, change it immediately.
The stealership will charge you around $1,000 to $1,200 but a good Euro shop like Renn Art in Chicago will be abou 30% less. DO IT!

just do it... you can see if its worn out by measuring the width of it... and find the conversions somewhere and it will tell you how much life you have in your belt... but it will break at or around 100k... and the 1g to get it done now sure beats the 5k if it breaks... if you are around nw jersey ill do it... lots cheaper.

And when Russ says $1000 to $1200, he def means $1200. I just got an estimate to see how much I need to save up for 6k from now. Going to do everything in my power not to go to the dealership but that will be worst case scenario.
