Default help weird sound coming from fan from heating/cooling unit

I turned my car on this morning and turned on the heat to let the car and inside warm up... There was this weird sound coming from the fan unit. It sounded like their was a loose something or an occilation in the fan. when i turned off the heat in the car it went away. what do you think it is? i have a feeling i am going to take it into the dealer monday...(still under warrenty) thank god. anyways anyhelp would be nice.

Either fan bearing is going, or the fan is loose and rubbing against the housing.

Everything on this damn car is expensive to fix.

Should be 10 minutes of labour to remove the passenger knee bolster and glove box to reach the fan. You can then access the aquirrel cage fan housing and try to re-seat it and see if that helps. If not you could try some oil and see if that helps. Failing that replace the parts.

Your face will be right in front of the passenger air bag so if you are going to do this yourself

1. Make sure you have full instructions (get a Haynes manual or the full A4 manual from Bentley). It will pay for itself in less than a year.

2. Make sure you have your radio code, if you are going to disconnect your battery

3. Disconnect the battery.

4. Have a cup of coffee and a cigarette, in case the bags include a small capacitor, in which case they could still fire even with the battery disconnected.

You could remove the pollen filter, turn fan to high and spray silicone into inlet.

David , I did this a year ago and noise hasn't returned. Ventilate car, open window till smell goes away.

that not very safe Crazyhawk, I think you got the resistor in the HVAC unit
its possiable it can catch on fire due to spraying chemicals in there..

What is the outside temperature when you turned it on this morning? I suspect it will be below -10 degrees celcius. Looks like it is temperature that caused the fan to be all tight and making weird noise.
