The dealer could care less. After replacing the battery , check the voltmeter.
If it reads 14V without headlights you don't need an alternator.

I gave my car to the dealer today as the alternator is covered in my warranty. I called the dealer few minutes ago to find the status of my car and he said everything is fine and he didn't find any problems except a little discharge on the battery which he charged it to full. I didn't tell them that my battery is brand new.
Do you guys think of anything why would AutoZone guy say the alternator is bad and why the dealer isn't?
Thanks,
RCil

I always get a second opinion no matter what the problem is. Sometimes I even get a third just to be sure.

Just replaced the battery on my Audi A4 1.8 with one from Costco, #48. Why is this battery half the weight of my original Audi battery? The specs on the Costco seem to be greater (CCA). Is it because of the reserve capacity of the Audi battery?
Also, for some reason, I didn't have to re-do the radio or the engine management procedure (hold the key in the B position before starting). Clock and Windows had to be re-programmed however.
Weight matters?
