Default HELP! tranny woes

i own an 01 2.8Q Avant w/ 51000 miles

heres the story...
lastweek i was at a stop sign waiting to pull into traffic. when i got the chance i pulled out and felt a huge thud like someone rear ended me or something. i looked in my rear view and noone was there. i suddenly felt the car get sluggish like it didnt want to pick up with my foot mashing the gas pedal. i put the car in tip mode and noticed it didnt function. i dropped it into all gears and only PRND worked. the display on the cluster still has the D highlighted no matter what gear i select. now the car feels like its stuck in third as when i went to launch it was very sluggish. when i get up to speed it feels ok but i drove on the highway doin 65 @ 3700 rpm so im guessing it wont get into fifth gear. i believe i might be in limp mode as i read some similar occurances when i did a search onother boards.

i had the car vag'ed by a friend and this is what i got:

I don't have my wiring diagrams handy. Most of the codes are probably ancient. The important one is 18084. Your transmission is in LIMP mode and only 4 gear and reverse will work. Clear the codes and see if that solves the problem. The Tcu is on the floor front passenger side. If your car gets water in it, it often shorts out. Have you driven through very deep puddles?
