Default Help on tires

Hello All,

I own a Audi A4 2001 Quattro with 17' wheels. The tires I got now are high performance Toyo Proxes of size 225/45 ZR 17.These tires are new and got only 10000 miles on them. They are pretty good in the summer and horrible in the winter. I am in a plan to buy all season tires.

I am going for all seasons instead of winter tires is because I live in Colorado Springs where weather is not predictable and you don't see lot of snow continuously more than 3 to 4 days meaning it snows today and will be sunny next day. I thought all seasons will be good for weather like this.

I read all the posts about the tires and not able to decide which one to take. Looks like everyone got their own opinions and it’s understandable.

I did some research on tirerack and couldn't decide which one to pick. I hope I will be helped with some good brands which are reasonably priced and will work all year round.

Thanks,
rcil

If you're buying from tire rack, I'd either get Pirelli P-nero M+S (all seasons) or get the Avon Tech M550 A/S... the avon is likely the best deal on the planet. Everybody loves them. The pirelli's are notoriously amazing tires... but will cost a bit more.

Also, I'd go 235/45/17 when you buy new tires. That is the OEM sized tire for 17" wheels.

my votes for the p zero neros. I got them put on my S4 bout a month ago, they are amazing. I instantley noticed improved traction around the twisties over the oem continental sports and they are very quiet at high speeds 100+ (compared to the continentals). These tires are amazing! i think i payed 142 a peice on tirerack.

Dedicated snow tires will be great in the snow, and fine in the dry. If you get snow/sports, like Dunlop Wintersport M3s or something, they will be GREAT in the dry and GREAT in the snow. Just keep your sticky Toyos and get a set of nice winter tires. You won't regret it.

235/45-17.

Thanks for all the inputs. I am really confused now whether to go with snow tires or all seasons. I already own the toyos which are good in summer but is that ok going with winter tires in the weather like this in Colorado. If yes then please recommend and a reasonable priced tires which works great in this weather conditions.

Headshok, what do you think of this? What do you want me to go with ........all season or winter? If winter then what happens when I run them on dry road. Please suggest a brand name of the tires.

thanks,
rcil

Of course it would be "ok" to do. No place in the world has more snowy days than dry in the winter. It will be cold, which limits your summer tire's effectiveness, but of course a dedicated winter tire will be OK in the dry. They're designed to grip snow and ice, and work in weather below freezing.

I got mine used, 5k miles Dunlop M3s for 450 dollars shipped. You can try tirerack.com; I think Dunlop Graspics are an OK budget winter tire.

Thanks for the quick inputs. Can I know what is the difference between 235/45/17 and 225/45/17?

thanks,

235/45/17 is a bit wider than 225/45/17
