Help! Power loss + bad noises
B5 A4 1.8t automatic/tiptronic, only things done to it are a APR chip and a K&N filter (the filter I just put it the day before)
So I'm driving as normal, put my foot down on the gas a little bit, and I hear a terrible sliding/grinding noise. My car still runs (I guess) meaning it'll start, go forward and shift gears, but there is a noise that sounds like the sounds a go cart engine makes coming from the area around the turbo. The car's loss of power is incredibly great; it's as if I am literally driving a bad go-cart. I drove it a mile home, and it smelled as if the exhaust isn't doing it's job (started smelling the gases in the cab).
Anything? I haven't taken it to a mechanic yet because I have to go out of town for a few days, just seeing if anyone knew what it might be before I do.

RE: Help! Power loss + bad noises
Thought it might be a blown turbo.
I don't feel anything different except for when I try to accelerate it put-puts so sloudly I let off for fear of breaking it more. No vibrations or anything apart from the noise and the power loss.

Blown turbo!
Blown turbo!
The turbo is not blown....relax. If it was blown, you and your entire block would know. The main cause is most likely a blown turbo to manifold gasket. It kill the spool/power, smells like exhaust fumes, and makes the car louder. If you can do simple jobs on your car, you can remove/loosenthe manifold and remove the blown gasket and reinstall everything with no gasket after you clean the serfaces.

Awesome, thanks man. I was worried my car might be dead because I couldn't afford to fix a turbo blowout... So you're saying just remove the gasket and reinstall everything without a new one?

Otherwise I'll get a leak, right? Assuming I just wanted to shell out the cash for a new gasket, how much are they and what part exactly would I need?
Btw, thanks for everyone's help. It's greatly appreciated.
