Congratulations on your great deal. I'm in Alaska, everything costs more up here. It booked out at $14,500 even with the high miles and the bank didn't even bat an eye over it.

 

Quattro in the snow-Now that sounds like a blast!!! I have to pray for rainy days down here in FL to let her show her stuff.

 

Take a screw driver and put the tip on the rear tensioner. Then put your ear on the other end. it will magnify the noise for you move to diffrent areas and see where it is comming from. You do not want to leave the rear tensioner go. If it is the problem fix it. Everyone here will be of much help and even get you step by step.

 

Your rear tensioner can cause valves to bend as well so get it checked out

 

Update - had the oil changed and the problem is still there. Its not making the tapping when in Park like yesterday, but when it gets put in gear it starts tapping (loudest in Reverse). As the car increases RPMs you can hear it start to get louder. I guess I need to get it in the shop at least to find out what the problem is.

It's a fast tapping noise and not as loud as the first day when it started. The first day it started even when it was sitting in Park the noise was very loud and it felt like something was going to give out.
Now when its in Park idling there is no noise but as soon as you put it in gear the tapping starts and when you hit cetain RPMs it stops.
It taps the most when the car is either at low or high RPMs, when its just cruising its not too bad.
They can't get me in until Tuesday, I'll come back and update everyone on what they find.
Thanks to everyone who responded with ideas and suggestions, at least I'm not going into the shop blind and have an idea of what they'll be talking about and some idea of the cost.

 

How long have you had the car?? And is there any way you can get us a decent quality sound clip??

 

I've had the car for 2 months. A CarFax report is supposed to be faxed to me this morning. I'm at work right now and didn't drive the Audi. Will work on the sound clip as soon as I get home.
