Default Help Identifying a part (hose)

I have a 2006 A4 2.0T that I am trying to find information on. In particular, there is a hose (ribbed metal) that attaches to the front of the engine block on the upper left side of engine (when facing the engine). There are actually two hoses that run into the head - a smaller hose that appears to be a vacuum line, and then the larger metal hose that is not under pressure or have vacuum. That line attaches to the engine block with a hard rubber boot. That boot has somehow developed a large rip/tear in it on my vehicle. I checked at two local parts stores with no luck. The Audi dealer around here is not convenient, so I thought I would check with forum members to see what this line is, what it does (how it would affect normal operation), replacement cost, etc. Any help on identifying the line/hose (including whether the hose and boot come as one assembly or seperate) and answering the aforementioned ???'s would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.
