HELP! I need everyones opinion! Mileage for timing belt change 2.8 30v SHOP WILL SEE REPLIES
Hey, so long story short my 01 2.8 quattro manual has 70k miles on it, everyone on here is religiousabout the 60k miles t-belt change along with me. Ever since it hit 60k I have been wanting to get the timing belt replaced. I have been to two reputable shops and they both told me I dont need the timing belt until 100k miles. I'm really worried about my timing belt and the deal with the pops is if im going to school he picks up car maintenance and insurance. My dad went on audi's website and printed the recommended maintenance on a 2001 2.8 a4 and it says the timing belt doesnt need to be done til 105k miles, so he is pretty much convinced it does not need to be done right now. I need some backup on this thing, I will show my dad and the shops everyones replies.. Meanwhile im so worried about my timing belt...

Everything I read has said that its not the belt itself that breaks, but its the tensioner instead. I just changed mine at 62k because I'm not about to risk the damage. There's a ton of info in the search.

The bad designed tensionor is only in pre 00 1.8t engines. Id just do it at whatever the schedualed time is according to the dealer or owners manual with the 2.8.

Manual for your year states 105k miles.
You have the updated tensioner. If it was my car, I would change around 95-100k, just to be a little procactive.
If there is any one out there with a 2001 or newer thats had a tensioner or belt break, its very rare. Most horror stories are on the older models. My tensioner went at 89k on my 97, but thats another story, and another model year.
