So i recently noticed there was a loud sound coming from my exhause like there was a small hole. i look under and 1 of the smaller wirelike heatshields is ripped in half. would this cause a distortion in the sound of my exhaust? or is there a hole in it? when i rev it up my friend said he can feel air shooting out from where the heatshield was broken. also i am wondering what it would take to fix this? can i do it myself

 

the heat shield is screwed to the body not the exhaust so if there is a hole it was there long before the shield came off

 

its not the main heatshield thats alot bigger its smaller im not 100% its a heatshield i can describe it, its where the end of the headers meets the cat and theres a mellon sized wire mesh type thing surrounding it. there are two of them, . and i didnt hear any noise until after it was ripped in half

 

Best thing to do is get the digicam out and take a pic for us.

 

yea im gonna do that tomorrow see what u guys think. the noise is getting louder and when i let off the gas i hear a click click click i believe thats just the cat cause it has a hole in it

 

are you talking about the flex pipe?? lol, if so, that will make ur exhaust sound bad if its gotta leak in it.

 

yea i think its the flex pipe , are there two of them? how hard is it to replace?

Sounds like flex pipe tp me, and its a bitch to do cuz you have to have it done at an exhaust shop unless you have a welder

 

ok im convinced its the flex pipe , having a broken flex pipe will this do any damage to my caR? or is the sound just gonna be really annoying until i get it fixed

 

it shouldnt do any damage but then again i wouldnt leave it like that for a long time, mostly for annoyancve reasons imo
