Default headlight switch

so my headlights, taillights or side markers dont turn on when i flip the switch, i was told that its prob the switch itself and that i should use a cleaner...do i have to dissassemble the stearing column??? if so is this an easy job??? Thanks guys.

I don't have access to my wiring diagrams, but it is unlikely that it would be fuses. If it is the switch the lights in the dashboard probably shouldn't work either. You can try some TV tuner cleaner which should come with a small tube to direct the spray. You can try to spray it beneath the rubber cover of the switch based and see if that works. If not you may have to replace the switch

Do your highbeams work if you pull the switch toward you?

yes my hight beams work if i pull it towards me, but the headlights dont work any other time, nor do the side markers or the taillights. so i can spray the cleaner directly into the steering column??? Thanks again.

Nothing has worked so don't thank me.

If you are new to cars, you might want to go to PEPBOYS and pick up a Haynes manual for the VW/Audi A4.

It is detailed enough for most simple repairs and contains a lot of useful information. Cost is only 15 dollars, and you will save that back the first time you change your spark plugs.

As I recall, there is a rubber "boot" around the stalk, Stick the nozzle in there and spray and work the stalk up and down. If not, you may want to get more access by removing the steering wheel cover. This is where a small manual might help.

Be careful when working around the driver's side airbag, and if you disconnect the battery, make sure you have the radio theft code BEFORE.

yeah its the switch... mine did the same thing on the middle of a cross country trip.. that sucked.. being in South Dakota with only high beams.. its easy to fix. Pull your steering wheel off then your column its easier than i thought..

When mine did it. The running lights came on and the Dash lights came on... everything but the actual headlights. the part cost like 100 bucks though.. Good luck and make sure you do a write up so if anyone else has this problem they know what to do
