Default Head rebuild update and ?

Ok, so my head is still in the shop being worked on. My next door neighbor, who is incredibly smart with engines. Suggest i take apart the bottom end while im there because the cylinedrs are too smooth and will suck oil with a rebuilt/tight head. Any input on this? Also, i would be looking into new rings and bearings depending on how dificult it would be to lower the oil pan. Also, any input.

In my hopes to having a big turbo one day, i would really like to put in forged rods, how much more work is involved if i plan on doing everything i stated above?

I am in the same position as you too. Well almost. My TB broke the on Thanksgiving and it is sitting in pieces in my garage. However i still havent gotten the head off yet. I think that your bottom end should be fine. As for the oil pan i have no clue. And you wont need new pistons until about 400 hp cuz the 1.8 already comes with forged pistons.

You may be right but i remeber reading somewhere on here that they come with forged pistons. But i would ask CincyTT cuz he knows all. How big of a turbo are you thinking of?

Gt30, i figure might as well go for top end. I hate having such ridiculous amounts of boost down low (ko4). The rods would be more like, im there they cost 350 and there wont be any fear of snapping anything.

Misfire while back, havent pinpointed it yet, but i had a failing temp sensor and huge gaping hole in crankcase vent tube(everyone on here suggests it has nothing to do with my problems). But i had some bent valves on first cylinder, was running like 120 compression. Drove it from Tampa to Tallahassee and back like that, sucked ***

With a 2000 you will need 19mm pin rods. You can get a set of IE rods for about $300-320 (check ebay, 20squared, qedpower). If you hone the cylinders you will need new rings. This should bring back all the compression with a newish head. This will make your engine plenty strong for a gt30XX turbo.

Also, all this can be done with the engine still in the car, but easier if taken out.

Only a matter of time before you would show up!

Cincy, If im getting the cylinders honed, that will open me right up to the crank, right?? What is involved in getting the connecting rods off? Ive never been this far down in a car, my uncle has but never on an audi and im trying to bring more knowledge to the table.

Also, 034 doesnt have rods for 2000? I only see 21mm and 20mm

Im off to check ebay
