Default This has me freaked.

I drove my car (only been a day since I've had it) to my friends house and it was parked on a hill. When I started the car up to come back home, I accidentally over-rev'd the engine in 1st (car was idled). When I say over-rev'd, I mean the RPM shot up past the 7k mark. As I was driving home after this little mishap, I smelled a very, very strong burning smell coming from the engine.

My dad says that happens when the RPM shoots up too much but I'm worried about this.

Could this be the clutch instead? The car has 82k milles on it and the clutch has never been changed or worked on.

Did it smell like burning clutch or something else? If you don't know what burning clutch smells like, rev to 5-6K rpms and drop the clutch!
