Hanging revs in between shifts?

Hanging revs in between shifts?
I have an 02 3.0 Quattro 6-spd. When I get on it, it hangs on to revs in between shifts, no matter how fast I try to shift. Sometimes the revs even climb. And, no I don't still have my foot on the gas. I've been driving stick my whole life and never had a car do this. I don't think it's just my car either, because the same thing happened in all three that I test drove.
Any suggestions? Does a short-shifter help? I've researched several (saw other posts on this board) and they all sound good. But they look difficult to install considering I have ZERO mechanical skills. And I don't want to start learning on this car.

RE: Hanging revs in between shifts?
No, I'm not hitting the limiter. I doesn't happen during regular driving - only when I'm really getting on it and shifting above 5,000 rpms. I dont' think anything is wrong with the car because every one I test drove was the same way. I just think I'm not shifting fast enough??? I was curious to see if anybody else had this problem and if a short shifter helped. The throws are soooo long. Then again, I was used to my RSX-S, which I could shift with my pinky.

Short shifter wont help if you arent movin your feet fast enough. YOu might just need to get used to the way your car shifts and learn how to do it most efficiently on this car so your problem will go away.

Don't think that's it. I'm moving my feet fast enough - definitey off the gas before pushing in clutch. But that's a great way to describe my problem. The engine acts like I'm not off the gas in between shifts, even though I am.
What's this drive-by-wire stuff you guys are talking about?
This sounds like something I'm just going to have to get used to.

DBW is where the throttle is electronically controlled. It's not mechanical.
Also, the 3.0 probably has a pretty heavy flywheel which will keep it spinning a little longer.
Take it as a good thing...smoother shifting, ok for racing
