I have an 2001 and now that my warrenty's expired I can start modding my car. I called up my nearest Giac dealership and they quoted me $500 for a chip $150 for labor + tax. So I'm looking at about $700 for their chip which seems a little high in my opinion. Anyone know of some good Audi Performance shops in the Chicago Area?

 

That is some bulls***! 150 to hook it up to a laptop for 5 minutes. Tell him GIAC said they are going to be cancelled as an authorized dealer and go somewhere else. I paid 495 for the software and 50 for labor. It only takes 5 minutes. Yours is an 01 so the computer might have to be shipped out, chipped and sent back so that might take them a total of 15 minutes. So 150 seems like you are dealing with crooks.

 

Was that one in Mt. Prospect? I called them about a month ago and they said the same thing which i think is bullshi!! They said it will cost $695 but all they do is flash it. Oh and they claim it takes about an hour.

I GO THERE AND THE GUY IS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE 695$!!! I WAS LIKE **** YOU! SO I WENT TO RENN ART AND GOT THE REVO SOFTWARE FOR NOW.

ILL PROLLY RETURN IT AS SOON AS I FIND OUT HOW MUCH DUBWERKS AND THE OTHER PLACE IS CHARGING.

I ALSO WROTE EMAILS TO GIAC TO TELL THEM TO GET A DIFFERENT DEALER. 700$ FOR A CHIP IS REDICULOUS.

My APR chip needed to be soldered. The shop charged 35 bucks for ECU removal and soldering. Took 15 minutes

 

Yup Autobarn Motorsports is the place that I called. I asked whether installing a chip is as simple as popping it in and running a program. He said it was more complicated than that because they need to run the program off the internet and they have trouble getting it to work sometimes. So basically if I did want to get the chip installed I would need to drop my car off with them in the morning and pick it up that night or the following day. Not to mention the guy that does performance chips is only available mon-fri which also happens to be the days I attend school.

The way people do business totally es me off. They won't work with you, their inconvenient and they overcharge you on everything.

 

well as I said before ( is it chipped or flashed ) its flashed if he needs the Internet to set it up and you can buy this information on EBay all you need is a full working version of VAG to implement it
