I'm about to get a chip for my b6 1.8TQ (don't know which kind yet but most probably a APR or giac) and I am curious if there is a noticable decline in gas mileage due to the increase in performance. Right now I'm getting about 23.5mpg right now in a mix of city & highway driving. Do you know how much it will decrease after chipping?

it will actually increase on the highway, the only reason it would decrease, or does decrease is because people drive hard with a chip, most do it with out even realizing it

 

Yep the urge to floor it increases 10x's!

 

i had a giac installed in my 01 1.8t a few tanks of gas ago and have noticed better mileage on the freeway and a lot more fun driving.your going to dig it.(the chip)

 

lol yea the mileage only goes up if you can keep your foot out of it, and this you will find is a very hard thing to do once you get it chipped

my gas mileage went up about 100 miles per tank (i just put in an apr 93 oct. chip as a temp fix until i go bt)

 

The increase mileage comes from modified fuel trims and timing... gives you more power w/ less gas...
Most car companies tune their cars very conservatively for saftey.

If you drive your car the same you will see an increase.

If you drive it 100% WOT then yea... decrease...
